Infection Control
Maureen Spencer is certified in infection control and hospital epidemiology. She is currently the Infection Control Manager at the New England Baptist Hospital (NEBH), an orthopedic specialty hospital in Boston, Ma. and was previously the Director of Infection Control at Massachusetts General Hospital. She has a Bachelors degree in Nursing and a Masters of Education. One of the original pioneers in the field of infection control, she was awarded the APIC Carole DeMille lectureship in 1990 for excellence in the field of infection control.
Maureen has served on many national and local committees for the Association of Professionals in Infection Control and has presented numerous scientific abstracts at national conferences. She was selected as an APIC 2007 Hero of Infection Prevention, which was awarded at the 2007 Annual Educational Conference in San Jose, California. This was in honor of her work in establishing an MRSA and Staph aureus eradication program at NEBH. Maureen has authored several articles and chapters related to infection control and was a contributing author in Barbara Gruedenmann's Comprehensive Perioperative Nursing Textbook and the APIC Curriculum for Infection Control Practice.
